Monkey Wrench 2017 Summer Series
Monkey Wrench 2017 Summer Series comes to Canberra
Canberra One Gear Society (COGS) is proud to announce a Summer Series for 2017 sponsored by the kind folk at Monkey Wrench Cycles.
There will be two races for participants to partake in with varying formats. Each race will have something different for competitors to do for points or time bonuses. The emphasis is on fun and participation, so don’t come with your sheep station on the line (glory will be up for grabs though).
Course design to go up on this website once known – the weather and falling trees may have something to do with the final course layout.
After the race there will be the usual refreshments and we encourage you to hang around and socialise with other like minded people and enjoy the fine talents of our local Brewers – gold coin donations accepted
- Race #1 – Sat 18th February at Majura Pines, 3pm
- Race #2 -Sat 18th March at Majura Pines, 3pm
In the spirit of inclusion, the races will have a number of solo-only categories: Single Speed, Geared, Fatties, and CX. So tell all your mates to come along, gears and all!
Adult Races:
Minimum age for Adult Race is 15 – though if younger and believe you could cope with racing over this type of terrain get in touch with the race director either before the race or on the day to seek permission (including parental). Race results will be determined by the race organisers on the day based on the first riders past the line and whatever time/point bonus accumulated from the predetermined race activity.
Kids Races: – Usually but not held to
- Lap under 5’s
- laps under 8s
- Laps under 10s
Race entry will be $10, which includes land-use fees, refreshments and racing infrastructure. You must have a valid MTBA membership, which will be verified at registration (bring your membership card or a screenshot/printout if you just signed up). If you don’t have a valid MTBA membership, you will be able to purchase a participation licence at registration for $10.
You can join COGS here.
Or you can take advantage of the MTBA two month free trial membership here.
Race entry will include a race plate, which must be handed back at the end of every race in exchange for a can of drink. Random prizes from Monkey Wrench Cycles will also be given out.
Individual races will be posted as events on the COGS Facebook page.
Race rules are simple: don’t be a twat, be courteous on track, and if you see an injured rider, stop and help them. Detailed race info and rules will be given in the race brief before each race.
If you have any questions about the races or COGS in general, or you want to help out, message James Hall (Race Director) or Jeremy Guerin (President) on Facebook, or email COGS at info@canberraonegearsociety.com
The Majura Pines Trail Alliances (MPTA) volunteer trail building group has put in a lot of work to rebuild the spiritual home of COGS at Majura Pines. Check out their site here and, if you can, donate your time or money to help build and maintain local trails.
